Day 11

All of them got a haircut... Look much better now yay
If they start turning yellow. Then splitting was a bad idea.

F&N soda water

I'm trying out soda water to revive my half dead marimo.
Hope it helps a bit

Marimo Research

So I did some research and came across a marimo research paper.
Marimos are asexual which means they have no gender and they don't reproduce sexually.

Reference: Akiko Soejima, Natsuko Yamazaki, Takako Nishino, Isamu Wakana. (2009). Genetic variation and structure of the endangered freshwater benthic alga Marimo, Aegagropila linnaei (Ulvophyceae) in Japanese lakes. Aquatic Ecology 43, 359-370.

They kind of just split... So those other random marimo websites are true.
So the marimo that i split is likely to survive.

Many people write on the internet that marimo do not need much light because they live in deep lakes. I don't think this is largely true. According to a research article, "Wild" marimo thrive in shallow lakes. which allows sunlight to penetrate through (Christian Boedeker, Anja Eggert, Anne Immers, Erik Smets, 2010).

Hope they get better soon.
I added two cubes of ice to the water.
I put two healthy marimo in. You can really see the colour difference. :s

Sick marimo

Sick marimo note:
I will put my sick marimo in the sun for about an hour tomorrow morning. that's what a website says. direct sunlight. The website says for 2 days but I don't think they can survive Singapore's type of direct sunlight... They might just turn to ash.

The yellow marimos (stole this pic from a forum) look really sick compared to my sick ones

These are my sick marimo. I'll take pics of them after their sun tanning tomorrow
